There’s something about starting a new year and feeling like you need a fresh start isn’t there? Setting new goals, decluttering and having a vision will set you up for a fantastic and fulfilling year. Here are our top tips on setting up your year to be a super successful one.


Start Using a Planner

You’re not going to have your most successful year by winging it are you?? Your first step is to get yourself a planner!

You want something that is easy to look back on and track. This can be a paper planner or a digital planner. Making sure you use something that you can easily look at it on a daily basis is key.

You need a space to store all of your goals, projects, to do lists and notes.

Planners are so wonderful for keeping motivation high, stress levels low and your priorities straight.


Reflect and Set Yearly Goals

Before we start setting yearly goals, it’s important to take the opportunity to sit down and reflect on the past year. 

Ask yourself the following questions:
– What were the highlights?
– What were the challenges?
– Where did I spend my time and energy?
– What did I learn?

Jot down these answers and read it over. This will help to give you some great insight on what you want your year to look like.

Now, write out your goals. We like to set 3 big overarching goals. One professional, one personal and one family/home goal.

When thinking about your goals, ask yourself what you really want to achieve and why it’s important to achieve it. Not only that but also write down HOW you’re going to achieve that goal. This is huge! You need to have an action plan.

A great way to capture this is to write a letter to your future self as if you’re reading it at the end of the year. Write what amazing things you accomplished and tell yourself about all of the things you did to get there. It really works!!

Keep this letter or a list of your goals on your desk or bookmarked in your planner so that you can give yourself constant reminders to stay motivated. Check-ins are crucial!

We also want to be realistic about our goals. You want goals that are going to push you, but please don’t bite off more than you can chew or you’re going to be left feeling disappointed.


Create a Vision Board

A vision board is also a huge motivator! If you haven’t ever created one for yourself, it’s really a lot of fun.

Take a large piece of paper (or I love to use the first blank/dotted grid page of my planner) and glue cut outs, draw or write what you want your year to look like.

You can add things like motivational quotes, hobbies you want to start, financial goals you want to achieve, items you want, your dream lifestyle, role models… anything!

The vision board goes perfectly alongside those yearly goals and what it does is really help to bring everything to life. Again, put this in a space that you see all the time. Pin it up in your office, on your fridge or in your planner!



A favourite! Decluttering and letting things go really helps to give that fresh start feeling.

Go through your closets, your pantry, your office, your computer files, your inbox etc, etc. and get rid of those things that you no longer need or use.

No need to go crazy and do everything, but tackle the areas that seem to give you the most stress and get them out of the way.

THEN make it a monthly or quarterly task to declutter one area. Add it to your schedule!

While you’re at it, try to take some time to not only declutter physical stuff, but let go of feelings or regrets that are weighing you down. Start the new year off with a positive mindset.


Develop or Change Habits

Everyone has a list of habits they either want to start or change. This is a great time to put some focus on these.

Maybe you want to exercise daily or stop drinking so much coffee. Whatever it is, write it down and determine the best way for you to ensure that you continue with them.

We love using habit trackers. They’re a great way to visually track your habits, be more mindful and create consistency.

Here are some habit ideas to get you started and thinking about what it is you want to start, change or stop

  • Make dinner
  • Eat healthy
  • Go to bed early
  • Daily or weekly yoga
  • Screen time breaks
  • 15 minutes of cleaning per day
  • Make bed 
  • Go for a walk
  • Meditation
  • Read a book
  • Family time

  • Inbox 0 daily
  • Blog posts
  • File organization
  • Daily tracking
  • Social media engagement
  • Use planner


Follow these simple steps and create the perfect year for yourself. Full of motivation, inspiration and goal crushing habits.

And honestly… it doesn’t need to be January to start this. Any time you feel the need for a fresh start or if there is a big change in your life, go through these steps and make the plans you need for your best year yet!
