How to Boost Your Productivity as a Work-From-Home MomSep 01, 2021
As a relatively new mom and entrepreneur, I have had to drastically change how I do everything. Going from a 9-5 job and a side hustle with no kids to having a child and a full-time business is a HUGE change. I am sure a lot of you can relate! Over the last few years I have learned so much about managing my time and my work-life balance.
I knew that if I wanted my business to be successful I had to figure out the best ways to get the maximum amount of work done in small amounts of time. It was an adjustment but it quickly became a routine that worked so well for my business and my family.
Here are some of the strategies that have worked for me and have helped me with my time-management and productivity. I hope they can help you as well!
This is most important! Plan everything. I am typically more of a go with the flow type of girl but quickly realized that my days needed to be planned out if I wanted to succeed.
What works best in regards to planning is different for everyone but I find that Sundays are great days to sit down and write out a plan for the coming week. List out all of the tasks you want to accomplish and place them in your planner or online calendar. Seeing everything laid out in front of you takes so much of the stress of the upcoming week away.
Try not to be too rigid with your schedule. We all know that being a mom doesn’t allow you to be on a strict schedule. I time block my schedule, so rather than booking specific time slots for tasks, my blocks of time are typically morning, nap time and after bedtime. I accomplish each task I had planned during each time block.
Have a good morning routine.
Even if you’re not much of a morning person (like me), having a good set routine for the morning sets the rest of your day up for success.
My morning starts with immediately getting dressed, having breakfast and going for a long walk with my kids. It helps to clear my head and prepares me for the day. For others it may be relaxing and reading the news before the kids get up or jumping right into the most important work tasks for the day. Whatever works best for you, make it a daily routine.
Yes, I know this is hard but put down your phone and pause social media notifications while you work. I know too well how distracting Instagram can be and that precious nap time flies by when you’re just scrolling and browsing.
Take full advantage of those short spurts of time to get work complete and put your full focus on it. I am telling you, you will notice a huge difference by just doing this!
Set up Automations.
My favourite! Once I learned about all of the automations I could set up in my business, it was a game changer!
Why continue repeating the same work over and over again when you don’t have to.
Start out with simple things like setting up canned emails for your frequent email responses, adding a scheduler or a quick questionnaire to your website contact page, or using an online application to send and sign contracts.
Once you start using automations, you will find yourself looking for other ways to automate your business and be more efficient than ever!
